Due ~~Dilligence~~ Care for my Hobby Projects
I had written previously on how I was an idiot, fool, prat, moron. I was wrong to believe that I could create a platform that would replace all the installed applications on my tiny five inch phone. I had not realized it then (nine years back), but looking back now, I realize the mistakes that I had done.
The mistakes were (in no particular order):
-
lack of a proper maintained architecture when implementing a new feature in my Telegram Bots
-
blindly doing what I needed during that moment without realizing the future consequences
-
adding more features (which my past self required) made the interface/experience complicated for my future self
Then in November 28, 2022 I had to say goodbye to most of these hobbies which were resource intensive. But, still the addictive nature of the platform continued and I was blinded by this addiction. I continued creating many more useless bots. After July 19, 2023, I stopped creating new Telegram bots and my efforts were streamlined in the maintainance of the active bots. Some of the active bots were such which required interaction with third party services like IMDb and YouTuBe which I do not control, and hence required more active maintainance than I could have imagined. Then from August 29, 2024, I decided to abandon most of the bots and add all features in the @useTGbot. This was a massive effort in streamlining the code of all the bots to a standard structure instead of the അവിയൽ shape of how the IMDb and YouTuBe bot are currently running with. Then in December 24, 2024, the maintainer of the library which I was using in my YouTuBe and TelegraPH bots discontinued the project and I had to keep a FORK alive so that the YouTuBe bot can continue functioning, with all the new Telegram features and updates. All this was happening parallelly wherein I also had to manage a daily 10-5 job to sustain myself.
I realize, now, that I have to draw a clear distinction from my hobby projects and exercise due dilligence in the amount of time wasted to maintain these FREE services from which I get nothing in return. I realized that Experience is the best teacher and I should enforce due care when choosing new ideas for my useless hobbies.
